Every week I take the kids to one of the Library in the Phoenix Library Chain. Iolana loves to read books. She also likes to play with the many toys and board games they have. (But be careful, one visit Iolana was putting an alphabet puzzle together and some kid ran off with one of the pieces. We got it and immediately wiped off the dripping druel . Thank goodness for Purell.)
On an average visit we will check out about 8 books. Iolana does most of the picking. There are times when she is grossly engaged in the puzzles and do-dads (we very technical here) and I'll pick out a few. We take them home and she has already read through most of them by the time we walk through the front door.
For bedtime Adam or I will read her 2-4 stories and then off to bed. She gets to pick out the stories we read and of course favorites are spotted when she asks day after day for the same stories. This weeks favorites are "The Very Busy Spider" and "Go to Sleep Gecko!". As we snuggle in to read Iolana will tell me, "You'll have to read me the story Mommy because I don't know how to read it yet. But I'm practicing to read so when I'm bigger I can read it all by myself."
