Yes, I survived! And I'll tell you about my no-so-near-death experience that occurred a few days ago. Imagine, mom (that's you) in the kitchen preparing dinner. Hubby is taking a shower after a long day at work and the kids are playing starting to complain that they are hungry. I whip out the cutting board and onion and I sharpen the knife. All is going well I slice the peeled onion in half and prepare for the infusion of onion gas - otherwise known as tear gas, and continue to chop away at the onion. Then, the onion teeters and it falls into the path of the blade. I grabbed my finger in pain of course and run cold water over it. I haven't actually seen the cut yet mind you but for a split second I could have sworn that I sliced off part of the tip of my middle finger. Luckily it wasn't totally severed; just sliced pretty good. I did manage to cut through a nerve which made it throb like crazy!
Of course this happens Friday night and we are both wondering if this cut is worthy of stitches or not. I decided not to go in and wait it out. If it wasn't matching up properly I would go in to have it stitched. (I surely didn't want my finger to look "lumpy" or anything like it. Regular human fingers is what I was after.) I'm happy to say that it's healing just fine and is finally at the point where it doesn't hurt or feel weird to put any pressure on it. I should have taken a picture of it, but it didn't even cross my mind at the time. I'm sure you understand. And that is my not-so-near-death experience.
