Boston Reunion Day One - The Freedom Trail

The whole reunion was about a week. With most everyday something planned. Since most of the family has never been on the east coast everything was new. We decided to do Boston's Freedom Trail. Only as customary we didn't leave the house until it was nearing afternoon, which meant that we missed the guided tours.

First up we had to find parking. Then we walked and walked some more and came to...

The U.S. Constitution. When Toby had first told us we were going to go see the U.S. Constitution I thought he meant the actual Constitution, little did I know he was talking about a ship. And in usual fashion it was closed by the time we arrived. So this is as close as we got to it.

After a potty break we moved on. And again, we had to walk a bit of a ways to the rail station. After finding our way we boarded the rail and headed for the Freedom Trail.
Ironically we were following the Orange Line. I thought that quite appropriate since we were all wearing orange shirts. By the way the shirts have a map on them with a star at Boston saying United in Boston 2009.
By the end of the train/tram ride the kids were already getting a bit worn out. We had already done quite a bit of walking and we hadn't even started yet.
So we stopped and let the kids chase around all the birds who were mooching off of all the picnickers. And then we ourselves decided to picnic in the park (Boston Common) before we started our Freedom Trail tour. I believe it was about 1300 or so in the afternoon by this time.
This is everyone decided which way the start of the freedom trail is. The Boston Common isn't exactly a small park. We eventually just started at a point we though looked good. Toby and Marcie knew enough of the trail as they had done it before so we ventured off on our own to take the tour.
