New Piano

This week has been something else! It seems we picked the week to do everything that's been on our to-do list this week. About a month ago Adam handed me a box of tools and said, "Sell these on ebay, they are tools that I don't need/use anymore". I just got around to putting them on ebay Saturday night. 

I haven't heard anything from the FAA yet, but if/when we do, I wasn't going to take our piano with us. It's just too much to move around so often. So, I posted it on craigslist and with

in 1.5 hours I got a call about it. Then about an hour after that I got another call. The first guy came to see the piano that night with his family (nice family too) and he took it. Yipee! This piano has been around a while, and around the globe. I remember using

 this piano to practice when I wasn't even a teenager yet. I will miss it. 

However, I had to sell the piano and Adam's tools so we would have enough money to get me a digital piano! It's a Yamaha CLP-230. 

We picked it up on Wednesday. I wanted a CLP-240 (at least) and that's what I thought I was getting. But, Miss I-don't-pay-attention-to-details (except at work apparently) didn't notice the actual model number on the piano. Adam had mentioned it talking about the polish but it went right over my head. Needless to say I was a  little bummed to think I was getting a CLP-240 and find out (after we already gave the guy cash and were on our way home with the piano) I got a 230. Even so it's a nice piano. A little low on oomph in the speaker department but sounds great with headphones. I'll still be on the look out for the piano I'd like to have and when I find it I'm sure we can sell this one for at least what we paid for it,  perhaps a little more!

Sisters at Play

We finally got the piano tuned from our move to Phoenix. Just take my word for it when I say, "It really, really, needed it". A friend of ours fished a business card out of a piano in one of the Tempe Church buildings a while back. When we asked her who she used to tune her piano she gave us his name, even though she hasn't used him yet. Turns out he hasn't tuned a church piano in about 20 years! So I'm thinking, "Where did Laurie, our friend who gave us his name, actually find this buisness card?". Most piano tuners now use some sort of computer program or aid to help tune, but this guy used a pitch fork and his ear. I've got to say he did a pretty good job! We'll have to have him back in about 2 months and then again in another 3 months. After that we should be on a normal schedule.

Since the piano's been tuned I and the girls have sat down to play/practice more often. Here's a few pictures I took today of the sisters at play.

It Can Only Get Better

I keep telling myself, it can only get better. I've been called to play piano for our the Relief Society here in Phoenix. I accepted thinking it is probably my only chance to force myself to practice everyday if I'm ever going to get better. And I do want to get better. I first need to get our piano sounding more like a piano rather than tone deaf boy going through puberty.

This Sunday was my first Sunday in my actual calling. I had 3 songs to learn, Make the Pathway Bright, Home can be a Heaven on Earth, and Love at Home. I can now play Love at Home... and that's it. The other two I was barely able to get the right hand sort of down. And which song did they skip because the lesson ran late? Love at home of course! *Sigh* oh well. As I said before, it can only get better right?!
